Da Man Vs. The Man
I've noticed that calling someone "da" or "the" can mean
radically different things. "The man" is usually trying to "keep
you down," whereas "da man" is often someone trying to get you
high. I try to avoid both characters, but they still effect me in profound ways.
While the terms can be applied in a number of ways, I've observed that "da"
is almost always a complement. "The" goes either way. This is
annoying, so I want to sort this out once and for all.

I decree here and now, if you mix these up at a future date, you are wrong. The penalty is only a modest 40 slugs in the groin, but that should be enough to warrant being careful. Here are some popular figures to help keep things clear.

Basketball was (uhhhh) one of Einstein's little-known talents, but I suppose it's possible that not all "the men" actually rape the elderly for humor.
